Shameless plug! If you’re a remote manager, have a listen to my recent interview on the great Yonder podcast. Would love to know more about you and how you manage your distributed team, as well as any feedback!

I’m a UK citizen currently interviewing with two companies based in the US (one is an LLC, one Incorporated). I would be working for both of them on a remote basis, as a Consultent/Independent Contractor, when and where I wanted. But effectively still being paid a monthly salary. Neither of them have a legal presence in the UK for PAYE purposes.
I’m looking for an accountant/accountancy firm with experience of this sort of situation, to advise me on the best route by which I can pay my income taxes, NI contributions and student lone repayments. As far as I know, I should either register for self-assessment as a sole trader (self-employed), or operate my own DPNI scheme.
Any recommendations or comments much appreciated!

Hello, I apologize if this is not the right venue for this question – I would appreciate a redirect if necessary.
I am a PhD student who is attending a school hours away from me. I travel in for my classes, but often have to miss interesting seminars and workshops because I can’t travel in for them. Is there any portable technology that I could use to make remote participation more effective? I have colleagues who are willing to help “skype” me in, but the video/audio is not great. Any hardware suggestions that I could make available for them to use that would be better remote eyes/ears for me?
